"During the bombing of the city centre of Rotterdam on the 14th of May 1940 in World War II, the original building by J.J.P. Oud was destroyed. It stood at the Coolsingel. In 1986 the façade was reproduced by architect Carel Weeber at the Mauritsweg, in a part of Rotterdam that was spared from the bombs. The design is a perfect example of the Dutch artistic moment De Stijl with its use of primary colours and simple abstract composition of vertical and horizontal directions. Next to the Rietveld-Schröderhuis in Utrecht it is a very clear cut completion of the ideals of the movement. The ground floor houses a bar and restaurant. In the back is a small theatre. "
